Wendy’s Classic Achiever® Scholarship Awards Program Official Program Rules and Regulations
The Basics
This award program is open to all Canadian citizens or permanent residents in their final graduating year of a Canadian high school or CEGEP, who intend to enter college or university in the next academic year. Wendy’s® Crew members can also apply, providing they meet eligibility requirements. Two additional scholarships of $2,500 each are available exclusively to Wendy’s Crew.
Applications will be judged on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service.
All entries must be received online by 11:59am EST, Monday, November 2, 2009.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Wendy’s Classic Achiever ® Awards Program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents studying in Canada
- Be in their final graduating year of a Canadian high school or CEGEP, with the intent to enter college or university in the next academic year
- Achieved at least a 70% average in their previous school year
- Participated in at least one extracurricular activity
- Demonstrated involvement in their local community (i.e. volunteer work)
Applicants who are Wendy’s Crew members must meet the same criteria as all other applicants. In addition, they must be employed by Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada as a Wendy’s Crew member at the time of application and when scholarships are awarded.
Gift Cards:
In order to be eligible to receive a Wendy’s Gift Card:
- You must meet all eligibility criteria.
- A complete online application must be received by Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:59 am EST.
- Applicant information, as verified by the scholarship administrator, must be found to be true and accurate or the applicant will be ineligible to receive a gift card.
- Only one gift card will be awarded per household.
- Available only while supplies last.
Employees of Studentawards Inc. (the “Program Scholarship Administrators”), their respective representatives, agents, advertising and promotional agencies, affiliated and related companies, and members of the immediate family (parents, children, siblings and spouse, regardless of where they live) and those with whom they are domiciled are not eligible.
Potential winners (and in the case of minors, a parent or legal guardian) will be required to sign a Declaration of Compliance and Release of Liability before being awarded a scholarship or trip prize. The signed declaration will include the winner's consent to the use of their name, city and province or territory of residence and photograph, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada relative to this competition.
A limit of one (1) application is permitted to be submitted per applicant. In the case that more than one application is submitted, the most recent version will be taken into evaluation.
Wendy’s Restaurants of Canada has final and binding discretion to decide all questions respecting the awarding of Scholarships and all prizing, the Scholarship Program, its administration and its terms.
All application information must be found by Studentawards Inc., the Program Scholarship Administrator, to be true, accurate, and complete and meet all Wendy’s Classic Achiever ® Scholarship Awards Program eligibility requirements. The provision of false information will render the applicant ineligible for this scholarship and any prizing.
How to Apply
You can apply for the Wendy’s Classic Achiever ® Scholarship Program by filling out an online application. A complete application includes the following:
- Overall Grade Point Average for Grade 11, or last year of school, if attending CEGEP
- Academic Scholarships
- Special Recognition, Honours or Awards (school, district, regional or national)
- Extracurricular Activities, including clubs, sports and activities outside of school
- Record of Employment, including approximate number of hours worked per week
- Community Service/Volunteer Work, including approximate number of hours and any leadership positions
- Maximum 300-word essay on a pre-determined topic related to community and extracurricular activities

Prizes
National Winners
The two students – one male and one female - who score highest across the country will be selected as National Winners. Each winner receives:
- A scholarship of $5,000 (CDN)
- A fully paid weekend for each winner* (and a parent/guardian) to New York City, where winners will be honoured at a special banquet, along with American students who have been chosen as Wendy’s High School Heisman award winners.
*Please note, the National Winners must have a valid Canadian Passport in order to travel to US.
Regional Winners
There will be 30 Regional winners:
- The top nine (9) Regional winners will receive a scholarship of $5,000 (CDN) each. Should a National winner be unable to participate in the New York City trip, the highest scoring Regional winner (of the same gender) will be invited to go in their place.
- A further twenty-one (21) Regional winners will each receive a scholarship of $1,000 (CDN)
Wendy’s Crew Winners
Wendy’s Crew members can win one of two $2,500 Wendy’s Crew Scholarships only available to Crew. And are eligible to win national, regional and gift card prizes too.
High School Grants
Wendy’s Classic Achiever ® is giving a $1,000 grant to the high school of each of the $5,000 scholarship winners at the National and Regional levels.
Wendy’s Gift Cards
$20 Wendy’s Gift Cards will be available to those who meet eligibility requirements. Quantities are limited.
A Note on Deadlines
All applications must be received by 11:59 am EST, Monday, November 2, 2009. To be eligible to receive a Wendy’s Gift Card, a complete online application must be received by 11:59 am EST, Tuesday, October 6, 2009. You may apply by completing the online application form accessed through the wendysclassicachiever.ca website. Applications must be made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of application. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. All mandatory fields must be completed. No photocopied, computer generated facsimiles, mechanically reproduced, or mass entries permitted. Program Sponsors are not responsible for any online communication problems, nor for any late, lost, misdirected, illegible or incomplete applications, which will be void.
Consent to Use
By entering, you consent to Program Sponsors use, should you become a winner, of your name, place of residence and photograph or other likeness, without further compensation or notice, for publicity, advertising or informational purposes in any media or format (including the Internet) in connection with this Program or future similar programs. If the winner is a minor, the winner’s parent or legal guardian must give such consent. By applying, you declare that you have complied with the Official Program Rules and Regulations. All entries become the property of Program Sponsors and will not be returned to entrants.
General Terms and Conditions
Applicants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by all decisions of the Program Sponsors, which are final and without appeal in all matters pertaining to the Program. Program is subject to all applicable laws. All taxes, fees, and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winner. Return of any award/award notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. By entering, participants release and hold harmless Program Sponsors, their franchisees, their affiliated and related companies and advertising, promotion agencies and all of their respective directors, officers, shareholders, employees, agents, successors and assigns (collectively, the “Program Entities”) from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Program or any award won. Winners will be required to sign and return, within the time period indicated on the documents, a Declaration of Compliance with Program Rules and a full Liability and Publicity Release.
Program Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any individual that they find or believe to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Program; to be acting in violation of the Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. ANY ATTEMPT BY AN APPLICANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH CONTESTANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Limitations of Liability
Without limiting the release in the Paragraph above, and for greater certainty, the Program Sponsors will not be liable for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Program Applicants or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Program, or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of entries in the Program. The Program Sponsors will not be liable for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or delay in operation or transmission in connection with the Program, or communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Program Sponsors will not be liable for any problems with, or technical malfunction of, any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, or failure of e-mail which may occur for any reason whatsoever, including technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof, including injury or damage to participants’ or to any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this Program. If, for any reason, the Program is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the reasonable control of the Program Sponsors which corrupt or affect the administration, security or proper conduct of this Program, Program Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to, without advance notice, terminate or suspend the Program, in whole or in part, or modify it in any way. In no event will the Program Sponsors be liable for any incidental, consequential, special or indirect damages even if the Program Sponsors have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
