Who is eligible for a Wendy’s Classic Achiever® Scholarship Award?
Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents in their final graduating year of a Canadian high school or Quebec CEGEP for the 2009/2010 school year, with the intent to enter college or university in the next academic year. In addition, students must have achieved at least a 70% grade average in their previous year, have participated in at least one extracurricular activity and demonstrated involvement in their community (i.e. volunteer work). You do not need to be a Wendy’s employee to apply; however, if you are a Wendy’s Crew member there are two scholarships just for you.
If I am a National Winner, do I have to go on the trip to NYC?
No. It is not mandatory for you to participate in the trip to NYC. You may choose to accept only the $5,000. However, should you decide not to participate, you will not receive additional compensation in lieu of the trip. The top scoring Regional winner (of the same gender) will be invited to go in your place.
Am I eligible if I am in an International Baccalaureate program?
International Baccalaureate students who are planning to attend college or university in the 2010/2011 academic year are eligible to apply (provided all other eligibility criteria are met). However, please note that all applicants are required to provide their grade average. If your program does not use a grade average system, please have your program director provide a grade estimate and include his/her contact information on the application form.
I’m an American citizen; can I apply?
To be eligible for Wendy’s Classic Achiever
® Scholarship Awards, students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. If you are a US citizen who is a permanent resident of Canada, you would be eligible to apply. However, if you are a US citizen and you are not a permanent resident of Canada, you should consider applying for the Wendy’s High School Heisman awards. For more information, please visit
www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com.
What is CEGEP?
CEGEP’s are in the province of Quebec only, and the acronym stands for Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel or College of General and Vocational Education. In the province of Quebec, high schools generally offer education only up to grade 11. Most students then enter a CEGEP to continue their education, choosing either a general program to prepare for university or a vocational program to train for a specialized career.
Are transcripts or letters of recommendation required?
Since applications must be submitted online, transcripts and letters of recommendation are not required. Applicants are only required to submit their grade average in percentage points. However, please note that all information supplied in your application will be verified by your school and other community organizations.

How long will it take me to complete the application?
We estimate it will take you about an hour to source and gather the information you’ll need to complete the application. However, it may take more (or less) time, depending on the number of programs and activities you’ve been involved with. You should also factor in the time it will take to complete an essay of maximum 300 words – again, this time will vary by individual.
Additionally, once you’ve finished compiling your information, plan on another 30 minutes to complete the online application.
Which courses should I include when calculating my grade average?
Your grade average should reflect all of the courses you took last year (grade 11). Similarly, for students graduating from CEGEP, please use your grade point average from the previous year.
Please note: if you took grade 12 courses in grade 11, you should include these grade 12 courses in the calculation of your grade 11 average.
Why aren’t we allowed to enter grade 12 achievements?
The application period starts in early September and ends November 2nd. If we allowed students to enter their grade 12 information, students who applied later would have an unfair advantage over students who applied earlier – simply because they had more time to accumulate their achievements.
There is one place where you may mention your grade 12 achievements – the essay. Within the essay, you may address any topic you feel is important for the judging committee to consider, including your achievements in grade 12.
How will I know if you have received my application?
All applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail within 48 hours of submitting an application. To ensure that you receive e-mails from Wendy’s Classic Achiever
®, please add wendys@usupport.net to your Safe Senders List. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail or require additional information on Safe Senders Lists, please contact us by e-mail at

When will the winners be notified?
The 2 National Winners will be announced the week of December 1st, 2009. Awards for the 30 Regional and 2 Crew winners will be announced January 28 to February 15, 2010.
Is there a page or word limit to the essay question?
There is no page limit to the essay question, although essays must be a maximum of 300 words. We strongly encourage students to stay within the word limit (this is the only way to guarantee that your essay will be received exactly as you intend it).
Please note that words such as, "I", "we", "and", "the", and "or" are included in the word count.
In order to determine the number of words in your essay, cut and paste the essay into a word document and use the "word count" function.
